I'm testing the waters to see if anyone would be interested in diving on August 23rd. I'm certified open water but haven't had the pleasure of diving the midwest, yet. All of my dives are from when I was living in NC. That being the case, I would appreciate recommendations for suits. Will a 7.5 do? Also, does anyone know of shops around NW burbs that service Zeagle gear?
Thanks!

I'll join you on the 23rd. I have been wearing a 7mm suit since I've been here. I also moved from NC. Can't help you with the dive shop info for the NW burbs. I highly recommend IID out of Glen Ellyn. Welcome to Chicago. Dan email:

Jwolf, Dan welcome to Haigh forum and to Illinois.
I live in the NW burbs as well and enjoy diving Haigh. I might be able to make it the 23rd. as far as dive shops in the NW burbs, I dive out of Sea Lions in Hanover Park
http://www.sealions.org/
they do not handle Zeagle. I also go to Chicagoland Scuba in Lake Zurich,
http://www.chicagolandscuba.com/
. Unfortunatly they also do not deal with Zeagle. There is a place called RegTech Its located in Skokie
http://regtechscuba.com/
they are not neccessarlily a dive shop, (I haven't been there), but they do service Zeagles.
7mm suits are the norm for local diving. Early May the surface temp. is around 50-60 F. In June and July the thermocline starts around 23-30 ffw, and you can leave your gloves and hood off if you are above these depths. The Flamingo, Larc and other attractions are below the thermocline. Aug. and Sept. can very with temp and the thermocline.
I'll know more about my availability next week.

Sorry, changed my mind. The weather looks like it's going to suck.

jwolf, dan;
my wife and I will be at Haigh this weekend. It'll be nice meeting up with you. We'll be arriving around 11 am, and we usually try to find a table near the west dock. I'll PM you my cell #.
